NC leader Angdembe questions PM Balen Shah’s declared assets, calls for transparent investigation

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress parliamentary leader Bhishmaraj Angdembe has questioned the source of Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s declared assets, calling for a transparent investigation into the gold and cash listed in the Prime Minister’s publicly disclosed property details.

Addressing Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Angdembe said the asset declaration released after Shah assumed office showed nearly 200 tolas of gold and bank deposits exceeding Rs 10 million, and argued that the legal source of those assets should be clearly explained.

He said the public is questioning how the Prime Minister accumulated such wealth after repeatedly claiming that Nepal had not provided a conducive environment to work over the past 35 years.

Stating that the main opposition’s primary concern is controlling corruption, Angdembe challenged Prime Minister Shah to subject his own assets to investigation.

He argued that the anti-corruption campaign would only be credible and meaningful if it began with the assets of both himself and the Prime Minister, rather than focusing solely on others.

Angdembe also invited the government to investigate his own property, including his hillside farmland in Panchthar, while insisting that the Prime Minister’s declared holdings of nearly 200 tolas of gold should likewise be examined transparently.

He maintained that it is unacceptable in a democratic system to question others while refusing scrutiny of one’s own assets.
