JHAPA: A wild elephant was found dead on farmland in Mechinagar Municipality-3 of Jhapa district this morning.
Locals informed the Division Forest Office after noticing the carcass. Nuthani Gohiwar Yadav, chief of the Division Forest Office, said a team from the office has been dispatched to the incident site. The cause of the elephant’s death has yet to be established, he added.
According to the Division Forest Office, 28 wild elephants have been found dead at different locations in Jhapa district over the past 16 years.
