Tourist arrivals, revenue decline at Langtang National Park

KATHMANDU: Tourist arrivals to Langtang National Park have declined during the current fiscal year, leading to a significant drop in revenue collection, according to park officials.

Data from the park shows that around 56,000 tourists visited Langtang National Park in the previous fiscal year. In contrast, only 50,360 visitors have entered the park so far this fiscal year.

Among them, 39,011 were domestic tourists, 788 were visitors from SAARC countries, and 10,561 were from other foreign nations.

The decline in visitor numbers has also affected the park’s earnings. Information Officer Ganesh Prasad Tiwari said the park has collected Rs 428.22 million in revenue so far this fiscal year, down from Rs 577 million in the previous fiscal year.

Langtang National Park, home to the popular Himalayan trekking destination of Langtang Valley and the sacred pilgrimage site of Gosainkunda, attracts thousands of domestic and international visitors each year.

Revenue generated through tourism plays a vital role in supporting park conservation efforts, biodiversity management and the livelihoods of local communities.

In response to the decline, the park administration said it is placing greater emphasis on promoting local tourism while continuing conservation initiatives to help strengthen both visitor numbers and sustainable income generation.
