RSP begins district conventions nationwide ahead of first national general convention

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which is preparing for its first national general convention, has begun district-level conventions across the country from Saturday.

According to a decision of the party’s Central Committee, conventions are being held in 37 districts on Saturday, while an additional 29 districts will conduct their conventions on Sunday. The convention in Bara district has been scheduled for June 9.

Addressing the opening session of the Kathmandu district convention, RSP General Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti said the party aims to complete conventions in 67 of the country’s 77 districts before the national convention. He added that conventions in the remaining districts will be held after the national gathering.

Burlakoti said party membership has increased significantly in recent months and stressed that the organization would be guided by rules, procedures, and internal democracy. He noted that the party’s statute explicitly rejects nepotism, favoritism, and dynastic politics, adding that attempts to weaken the organization through misinformation would not be accepted.

He said the party remains committed to shaping the country’s future and would not encourage politics driven by personal ambition or vested interests.

The general secretary also informed party members that those serving in various leadership positions who choose not to seek re-election at the same level will be allowed to participate in conventions at the next higher level.

Referring to the reception accorded to the party chair during a recent visit to India, Burlakoti described it as a sign of respect for the democratic mandate of the Nepali people.

The RSP is also preparing to hold conventions in all seven provinces from June 9. The party’s first national general convention is scheduled to take place in Chitwan from June 21 to 23.
