Nepali Congress seeks amendments to House of Representatives Rules draft

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has called for revisions to the proposed ‘House of Representatives Rules’ draft, citing concerns over its provisions.

A parliamentary party meeting held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday concluded that several clauses in the draft contradict the spirit of the constitution and raise serious legal concerns, Chief Whip Basana Thapa said.

She stated that while the party supports provisions aimed at ensuring good governance and improving service delivery, it will strongly oppose those that go against constitutional principles.

The meeting also concluded that the government has committed a serious breach of legislative authority and undermined parliamentary practices.

In addition, the party decided to raise its voice in Parliament for the proper identification, dignified relocation, and rehabilitation of genuine squatters.
