KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has urged the public not to open unauthorized links on digital devices, citing a recent rise in theft cases carried out through mobile apps and online systems.
According to the CIB, the use of unsafe and unverified links has led to incidents of bank account breaches and theft of individuals’ deposits.
The bureau stated that fraudulent messages and mobile numbers are being circulated, often mimicking services similar to Connect IPS. These are cases of “phishing,” a cybercrime technique in which users are tricked into opening malicious links that can grant unauthorized access to their bank accounts.
CIB spokesperson Dilip Kumar Giri advised the public to remain cautious, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and report such incidents promptly to minimize cyber risks.
