NA endorses National Forensic Laboratory Bill

KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) on Thursday unanimously endorsed the National Forensic Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2081 BS.

The Bill was passed at today’s meeting of the Upper House after being tabled by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Sinha on behalf of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and the Minister for Education, Science and Technology.

Earlier, Minister Sinha had presented a proposal seeking the Assembly’s approval of the Bill, as well as a separate proposal for deliberation on the Bill along with the report of the Legislative Management Committee. Both proposals were unanimously approved by the NA.

Lawmakers Dr Beduram Bhusal, Sumitra BC and Rukmini Koirala took part in the deliberations on the Bill.

Responding to queries raised by lawmakers, Minister Sinha said the legislation aims to strengthen research, investigation and various other aspects of forensic science in the country. The National Assembly is scheduled to meet again on Monday, February 9, at 1:15 pm.
