EC monitoring media content: Acting CEC Bhandari

BHAKTAPUR: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has urged the media to publish and disseminate fair, factual and unbiased news while covering the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election, scheduled for March 5.

Speaking to journalists at Janak Education Material Centre Limited in Sanothimi, Bhandari cautioned against producing or circulating biased and one-sided news or opinions during the election period.

He said the media should refrain from taking sides for or against any political party or candidate, particularly while expressing opinions, and instead focus on reporting based on facts and truth as the election environment has already been created and polling day approaches.

Bhandari also said the Election Commission (EC) has initiated investigations into violations of the election code of conduct and is taking action against those found breaching the rules. He added that monitoring of the implementation of the code of conduct is being carried out nationwide.

Highlighting the Commission’s preparedness, Bhandari said the EC has been accelerating election preparations to ensure a free, fair and credible election.
