BIRGUNJ: Representatives from political parties in Parsa have called for maintaining social harmony in Birgunj to address issues linked to religious and social sensitivities. The all-party meeting, led by the District Administration Office, was held on Tuesday and urged all communities to work together for peace.
Acting Chairperson of Nepali Congress, Parsa, Ram Narayan Kurmi, stressed that the recent challenges in the city should be resolved collectively by both communities.
“Fanning the flames in society does not benefit any side. Therefore, it is necessary for everyone to come together and maintain social harmony,” Kurmi said. “I appeal to preserve the centuries-old culture of peace and promote calm in the city.”
Hari Pant, Chairperson of Rastriya Swatantra Party, Parsa, stressed the need to engage Hindu priests and Muslim religious leaders to maintain social harmony and find long-term solutions.
“It is high time all sides work together to address the problems that have persisted in Birgunj over the past two to four years,” he said.
Bal Gopal Thapa, Chairperson of Unified Socialist, Parsa, noted that the current issues are not intrinsic to the local community, but often arise from following incidents elsewhere.
Tabrez Ahmed, youth leader of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), cautioned against organizing protests in Birgunj based on events in foreign countries. “Following incidents abroad to stage demonstrations here has created significant difficulties. I appeal to all to help maintain Birgunj as a zone of peace,” he said.
Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal highlighted ongoing coordination among agencies to promote social harmony.
“Religious and social conflicts benefit no one. I urge everyone to unite and cooperate in maintaining peace,” Dahal said.
The meeting underscores the commitment of local authorities and political leaders to prevent further tensions and preserve Birgunj’s long-standing culture of coexistence.
