KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, is holding an informal meeting of its office-bearers today to discuss recent political developments and key organisational issues.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 3 pm at the party’s central office in Sanepa. A party leader said the discussions would focus on the latest political developments, including the government’s decision to remove Dan Bahadur Karki from the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) and appoint Manoj Karki as his successor.
Meanwhile, controversy has also emerged over allegations that NC President Gagan Thapa spent Rs. 180 million to secure the party’s legal status. The Nepali Congress has dismissed the allegations as a government conspiracy, claiming that the government is attempting to question the party’s legitimacy through baseless and fabricated accusations.
The party has said it will challenge what it describes as attempts to suppress the opposition’s voice through both political and legal means. It has also expressed opposition to interference in judicial independence and press freedom.
The Nepali Congress has further demanded the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to look into the government’s recent controversial activities, including the arrest of journalists.
