KATHMANDU: Nepali young kickboxer Abiral Ghimire, popularly known as the “Himalayan Cheetah,” has achieved another historic victory in international kickboxing.
Ghimire defeated French boxer Mathan Choinard by knockout in the main event of the “HEAT Kickboxing 59 International Sports Kickboxing Federation World Championship” held at Kariya Hall in Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday evening.
Choinard is the 2025 world champion.
Ghimire secured the knockout victory in the second minute of the second round after landing a powerful punch on his opponent.
Ghimire has so far competed in 29 international bouts, winning 21 of them, including 20 victories by knockout. He is the only Nepali fighter to have achieved such a record, according to the report.
Through kickboxing, Ghimire has been promoting Nepal’s identity on the international stage and has emerged as one of the country’s prominent young sporting talents.
Following his victory, Ghimire expressed sadness over the loss of lives and property caused by the recent Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa and said he would provide support to the flood victims.
He also thanked everyone who has supported and encouraged him throughout his sporting career.
