Temperature likely to rise in southern plains



KATHMANDU: Weather conditions across the country are expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of rainfall in several areas due to the partial influence of a western low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere along with local winds.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the mountainous and hilly regions, including Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Sudurpaschim provinces, are currently generally cloudy, while most parts of the Terai are mainly clear.

Light to moderate rainfall is being recorded in some places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, as well as in a few hilly areas of Sudurpaschim Province.

The Division has stated that this afternoon the mountainous and hilly regions, including Koshi Province, will remain generally cloudy, while the Terai region will be partly cloudy.

Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some places of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in a few places in other hilly and mountainous areas. Light rain is also possible at one or two locations in the Terai regions of Madhes, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

In addition, a moderate heat wave is likely to affect some areas of the Terai in Madhes and Lumbini provinces, while temperatures are expected to rise in parts of the Terai in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the mountainous regions, including Koshi Province. The hilly areas and Madhes Province are likely to remain partly cloudy, while most other parts of the Terai will stay mainly clear. Light rain or snowfall is possible in a few places of Koshi Province and in some mountainous and hilly areas of Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

The Division has also urged residents of Bardiya, Banke, Dang, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, and Saptari districts to remain cautious over the next three days due to rising temperatures.

It has advised people to avoid direct exposure to heat, stay indoors or in cool places during the day, wear light cotton clothing, use hats or umbrellas when going outside, and drink plenty of water to prevent heat-related risks.
