KATHMANDU: Kathmandu police arrested 18 individuals last night, including the notorious gang leader known as ‘Sanubhai’.
The arrests were made in Samakhusi, Kathmandu, on Saturday night, according to SSP Ramesh Thapa of the District Police Range, Kathmandu.
The operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on gang activities in the capital. On Friday night, police had already detained over 150 people in similar operations across Kathmandu.
“So far, we have taken 195 individuals into custody, including 37 identified gang members,” Thapa said. “This campaign will continue without interruption.”
Sanubhai, originally from Kakani Rural Municipality-5, Nuwakot, had been residing in Suryadarshan Heights, Tokha, Kathmandu. The 33-year-old has a history of multiple arrests and escapes.
Police also noted that Sanubhai was an associate of Kumar Shrestha, alias ‘Ghainte’, who was killed in a police encounter.
