CHITWAN: Chitwan district recorded 64.12 per cent voter turnout in the election to House of Representatives held on Thursday.
In the voting held across three constituencies of the district from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, a total of 283,428 voters cast their ballots, according to Ganesh Aryal, Chief District Officer (CDO), Chitwan. Among them, 67.25 percent voters were female and 60.89 percent male, informed CDO Aryal.
Ballot boxes from all constituencies will arrive at the vote counting station by 10:00 pm tonight, Aryal said.
The Election Commission has completed preparation for vote counting which, he added, will begin after holding a discussion with the electoral candidates or their representatives. Counting of votes for constituency no 1 will take place at Bhuwani Shankar Multiple College at Khairahai while votes cast in constituency no 2 will be counted at Exhibition Centre of the Federation of Industries, Bharatpur.
Likewise, votes from constituency no 3 will be counted at Agriculture and Forest Science University, Rampur. The three constituencies had listed 442,082 voters. Among them, 217,314 were male, 224,766 female and two belonged to third gender.
There were 494 polling centres and 162 polling stations set up across these constituencies. Total 64 candidates contested in the district in today’s election.
As the voting is over, process to bring ballot boxes from respective polling stations to the designated vote counting centres is underway.
In the previous parliamentary election in 2022, there were 408,343 voters registered in Chitwan and the voter turnout was reported at 67.14 per cent.
