PM Karki, UML Chair Oli hold talks in Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: Amid growing political tension over the upcoming elections, Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli met on Thursday morning.

The meeting took place on Thursday morning at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

Although the secretariats of both leaders confirmed the meeting between Prime Minister Karki and UMl Chair Oli, no details of the discussions have been made public.

In recent days, UML leaders have expressed skepticism about the government’s commitment to holding elections. On Wednesday, UML Vice-Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ stated that the government was seeking excuses to avoid conducting elections.

Meanwhile, speaking at a program on Tuesday, Oli said that the Supreme Court should decide whether to restore the parliament before elections are held. He also pointed out difficulties in conducting elections in the Himalayan districts under the current circumstances.

On the same day, Prime Minister Karki said elections could be held in two phases if weather conditions were unfavorable, a proposal that the UML later rejected.

Against the backdrop of these developments, the meeting between Prime Minister Karki and UML Chairman Oli is being viewed as significant.
