NC holding Central Working Committee meeting today

KATHMANDU: With pressure mounting from within the party to convene a special general convention, the Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee is scheduled to meet today (Monday) to discuss key organizational and electoral issues.

According to party Office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel, the meeting will take place at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, at 1:00 pm. It will discuss key issues, including preparations for the party’s 15th General Convention and the upcoming elections for members of the National Assembly (NA) and the House of Representatives (HoR).

Earlier, the Central Working Committee meeting held on Friday decided to hold the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention in Kathmandu from May 11 14.

Meanwhile, a proposal for holding a special general convention registered with the support of 54 percent of general convention delegates, is also under consideration at the party’s central office.

The internal crisis within the Nepali Congress has deepened further, with leaders advocating a special general convention intensifying pressure on the party leadership.

The dispute escalated after General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma suspended the schedule of the party’s regular 15th general convention and moved ahead with preparations for a special convention. The move has drawn strong resistance from the faction loyal to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
