PARBAT: Landslides have displaced around 300 families in Parbat district. A total of 170 houses have been completely destroyed, while 131 others have sustained partial damage across the district.
According to the District Administration Office, landslides have affected settlements in six of the district’s seven local levels. Jaljala Rural Municipality has suffered the most damage, with 113 houses completely destroyed and 58 others at risk of landslides. A total of 171 families have been displaced in Jaljala.
Similarly, two houses in Kushma Municipality, 20 in Phalebas Municipality, nine in Bihadi Rural Municipality, two in Mahashila Rural Municipality and 15 in Modi Rural Municipality have been completely destroyed. Another 131 houses have sustained partial damage across the district, according to Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri.
The landslides have also damaged five school buildings, agricultural farms, temples, health facilities and police posts. The suspension bridge connecting Parbat and Baglung, as well as the Maldhunga Bridge along the Mid-Hill Highway, has also been damaged.
Several rural roads in the district remain blocked. According to the Chief District Officer, it will take a few more days to reopen the Phalebas-Bihadi and Lunkhu Deurali-Hubas sections of the Kaligandaki Corridor.
The local administration, local governments and various social organizations, including the Nepal Red Cross Society, have provided tents, food, utensils, blankets, hygiene supplies and medical materials to families displaced by the floods and landslides.
