KATHMANDU: As monsoon winds continue to dominate weather conditions across Nepal, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several provinces, with the highest risk of intense rainfall in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki.
According to the Department, weather conditions are expected to remain generally to completely cloudy nationwide. It said there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in many places of the hilly region and some places of the Terai, while moderate rain and snowfall may occur at a few places in the Himalayan region.
It has also forecast moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in many hilly areas of the country and in some Terai areas.
According to the Department, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the mountainous areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally to completely cloudy across the country. The Department said moderate to heavy rain and snowfall may occur at a few places in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at isolated places in the mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Similarly, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as in many places of Madhes Province. A few places in the hilly areas of Karnali and the hilly and Terai areas of Sudurpaschim may also receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
The Department has further warned that heavy rain may occur at one or two places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and in parts of Madhes Province.
People living in areas vulnerable to flash floods, river flooding, landslides and soil erosion have been urged to remain alert. The department also advised the public to stay updated with the latest weather information, as adverse weather conditions may affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation.
