KATHMANDU: KP Sharma Oli, chair of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML), has claimed that the current government, formed on the basis of “gimmicks,” will not survive for long.
Addressing the launch of the party’s Jagaran Campaign at the UML central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, on Saturday, Oli alleged that there were organized efforts to create an “anti-national narrative” against the party and undermine its public image. He said the UML would firmly confront what he described as misinformation and propaganda.
Commenting on the current administration, Oli said a government built on “spectacle and gimmicks” lacks a strong foundation and is therefore unlikely to remain in office for long.
Speaking on the issue of landless settlers, Oli said his government had been preparing to distribute land ownership certificates to landless and informal settlers, but the process was halted after the court dissolved the concerned commission. He acknowledged that the party had failed to effectively communicate the facts surrounding the issue to the public.
Responding to criticism from both within and outside the party, Oli said he has spent the past 57 years in political struggle, imprisonment, and party-building. As party chair, he said he is prepared to take responsibility for both the party’s achievements and shortcomings, adding that while everyone claims credit during successes, the blame is often placed solely on the party leadership during difficult times.
Oli also alleged that anti-democratic and anti-national activities were on the rise and urged party leaders and cadres to actively engage with the public to counter what he called misinformation and confusion in society.
