KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has said the government is committed to removing Nepal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list by fully implementing the required reforms.
Presenting a proposal in the National Assembly to consider the Asset (Money Laundering Prevention) (Third Amendment) Bill, Wagle said the government’s efforts to exit the grey list require the full support of all stakeholders.
He said Nepal would address all issues identified by the FATF through a time-bound action plan and implement the recommendations effectively.
The finance minister warned that Nepal could face the risk of being placed on the FATF blacklist if the recommendations are not implemented, urging lawmakers to recognize the seriousness of the issue and support the proposed legislation.
Wagle said the government has been working to fully implement the FATF recommendations since assuming office.
Nepal has been on the FATF grey list since March 2025. The National Assembly unanimously endorsed the proposal to consider the bill.
Earlier in the meeting, lawmakers called for clearer definitions and stronger provisions in the bill to enhance Nepal’s anti-money laundering framework.
They also stressed the need to send the bill to the relevant parliamentary committee for detailed discussion and consensus-building.
Among those participating in the discussion were Suresh Ale Magar, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota, Roshani Meche, and Somnath Portel.
