KATHMANDU: Internal dissatisfaction within the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has come to the fore after 183 leaders and cadres, including central committee members, office-bearers of affiliated organizations, and representatives from various party structures, jointly announced their resignation from the party.
In a declaration issued on Wednesday, the signatories stated that they remain firmly committed to the party’s core ideology, including constitutional monarchy and the parliamentary system, as well as the founding objectives of the RPP. However, they accused the party leadership of weakening the organization’s ideological foundation, undermining the spirit of the unity convention, and eroding democratic practices within the party.
The declaration stated that while the party’s unity convention had created fresh momentum and opened new opportunities for growth, those prospects had faded due to what it described as the leadership’s “inferiority complex, weaknesses and self-centered style.”
The dissident leaders also alleged that the party leadership had increasingly ignored the central working committee and other institutional mechanisms, opting instead for unilateral decision-making.
According to the statement, the leadership has deviated from the party’s principal agenda of restoring a constitutional monarchy. It further claimed that internal accountability and democratic culture have weakened, while activities contrary to the party statute have increased.
The group argued that these shortcomings have distanced the party from the public and contributed to its failure to achieve expected results in recent elections.
Stating that they see little possibility of reform under the current leadership, the signatories announced their decision to sever all organizational ties and responsibilities associated with the party.
Among the prominent leaders leaving the party are former minister Dhawal Shumsher Rana, Mukunda Shyam Giri, Dilnath Giri, Keshav Raj Shrestha, Narayan Prasad Koirala, and party spokesperson Sagun Sundar Lawati.
The list of those resigning also includes central committee members, provincial leaders, district-level office-bearers, and cadres from various party wings, marking one of the largest internal exits faced by the RPP in recent years.
