KATHMANDU: Nepal is taking on Malaysia today in the Asian Games cricket qualifiers in Singapore, with the aim of finishing as group winners.
Nepal, placed in Group A, has already secured qualification for the Asian Games ahead of its final group match. The team heads into the contest with strong confidence after a dominant 221-run victory over China in its opening match.
The match between Nepal and Malaysia is scheduled to begin at 12:15 pm on Thursday.
From the two-group tournament, the top two teams will qualify for the Asian Games. Following China’s defeats in both Group A matches, Nepal and Malaysia have already confirmed their qualification.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has sent the national team to Singapore under the captaincy of Dipendra Singh Airee for the qualifiers.
The squad includes Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh, Rohit Paudel, Sundeep Jora, Kushal Malla, Lokesh Bam, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Arif Sheikh, Shahab Alam, and Bhim Sharki, among others.
Nepal’s opening batter Kushal Bhurtel delivered a standout performance against China, scoring 129 runs off 43 balls in a match that highlighted Nepal’s strong form in the tournament.
