KATHMANDU: Lawmaker Suhang Nembang has proposed that the parliamentary Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee conduct on-site monitoring of holding centers where displaced squatters have been relocated.
Speaking at a meeting of the Federal Parliament committee, Nembang said immediate inspection is necessary amid growing concerns that people removed from informal settlements in Kathmandu are facing difficulties due to lack of proper management.
His proposal received support from committee chair Samikshya Baskota and lawmaker Sobita Gautam.
Recent eviction drives in the capital have led to complaints that displaced families are left in uncertain conditions without adequate arrangements. In this context, Nembang stressed the need for the committee to visit and assess the situation at holding centers without delay.
During the meeting, he also criticized the government for appearing weak in handling both the ordinance process and issues concerning landless citizens.
