KATHMANDU: House of Representatives (HoR) candidate Nisha Adhikari has warned that she will not remain silent over what she describes as character assassination and online abuse targeting her through social media.
Adhikari, who is contesting from Kathmandu Constituency-5 on behalf of the Gatishil Loktantrik Party, expressed strong dissatisfaction over personal attacks following the registration of her candidacy.
The actress-turned-politician took to Facebook on Wednesday, stating that she would not tolerate attempts to destabilize her through derogatory language. This is not the first time she has spoken out against abusive remarks. Earlier, she had urged critics to refrain from using offensive language and engaging in verbal violence.
However, after the attacks continued, Adhikari this time made the names and profiles of those allegedly involved public.
In her post, she wrote, “Do not cross the line. This is part two. This time I have not hidden the names. Because sometimes hatred does not spread anonymously—it becomes normalized openly. When a woman seeks leadership, it is not her policies that are questioned first. It is her personal life. Not her capability, but her character.”
She added that such experiences are not hers alone but shared by many women in public life.
“I am not shaken by these words. But I will not stay silent either. Words are not light; they carry the mindset of society. What kind of political culture are we building? One where we disagree but preserve respect? Or one where disagreement turns into humiliation? This post is not to seek votes. It is only a reminder that the level of democracy is measured by the language we use with one another,” she stated.
Adhikari’s remarks have sparked discussion about online conduct and the treatment of women in politics ahead of the elections.
