11 arrested for violating election code, four liquor shops sealed in Rupandehi

RUPANDEHI: Police in Rupandehi district have arrested 11 individuals and sealed four liquor shops for violating the election code of conduct ahead of the House of Representatives election.

According to District Police Office spokesperson Krishna Kumar Chand, the arrests were made during monitoring operations carried out to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election environment.

Police said the individuals were detained for selling and transporting alcoholic beverages despite a ban imposed during the election period.

During inspections conducted until Tuesday night, authorities sealed four liquor shops in different parts of the district and arrested those involved in the illegal sale and distribution of alcohol.

Police detained nine people, including the operator of a restaurant, from a restaurant located at Buddhachowk in Siddharthanagar Municipality-6.

In another operation, police seized 110 bottles of liquor labeled “Dami” and “Ishq” from a liquor shop at Gonaha Chowk in Mayadevi Rural Municipality-5.
Similarly, two restaurant operators were detained from Bhaglapur in Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality-7 and Siyabhar in ward no. 3 of the same municipality.

Police said the establishments were sealed after they were found operating liquor sales during the restricted period.
Authorities have mobilized special monitoring teams across the district to enforce the ban on alcohol sales during the election period.

The local administration has prohibited the sale, distribution, and public consumption of alcoholic beverages throughout the election period. Police have warned that anyone violating the order will face legal action.

Police also said surveillance is ongoing to prevent activities that violate the election code of conduct and to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully.
