Election candidate among four arrested with suspicious object in Parsa



BIRGUNJ: Police in Parsa have arrested four individuals, including a candidate for the House of Representatives, after recovering a suspicious object from a vehicle during a security check.

According to the Nepal Police, the arrest was made during a joint inspection carried out by Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force Nepal.

The detained individuals include Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, a candidate for the House of Representatives from Parsa electoral constituency-2, along with three others.

Police said the joint security team intercepted a vehicle (Ba 10 Cha 1250) that was travelling from Harpur towards Badnihar in Parsa. During the inspection, a suspicious item was found inside a tin box wrapped with yellow tape and placed on the rear deck of the vehicle.

Parsa Police Chief Sudip Raj Pathak said all four individuals arrested in possession of the suspicious object are currently under investigation.

The other detainees have been identified as 46-year-old Chaudhary, Sahab Alam Ansari of Prasauni Rural Municipality-4 in Bara, Suraj Karki of Dhanushadham Municipality-4 in Dhanusha, and Satya Narayan Tharu of Parsagadhi Municipality-3.

In a separate incident, police also detained three individuals from Inarwa village in Ward No. 16 of Birgunj Metropolitan City based on a tip-off.

According to police, the joint security team deployed for election-focused operations recovered nine improvised explosive devices (sutali bombs), a pig’s head, and 10 metres of electric wiring from their possession.

Information Officer of Parsa Police, Hari Bahadur Basnet, said further investigation is underway against the arrestees on charges related to carrying explosives, offences against public peace, and election-related crimes.

Police have intensified security measures in the district in view of the upcoming elections.
