KATHMANDU: Police have arrested one candidate each from Parsa and Siraha on the eve of voting.
According to police, Manoj Chaudhary, a NCP candidate from Parsa-2, and Asheshwar Yadav, a candidate of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal from Siraha-3, were taken into custody.
Police said Chaudhary was detained after suspicious items were found in the vehicle he was travelling in during a routine security check in the Badnihar area.
Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Parsa, DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, said four individuals, including Chaudhary, have been taken into custody and an investigation is underway.
In a separate incident, police detained Yadav during the election silence period after he was found carrying cash.
According to Siraha Police, Yadav was travelling from the Nepal-India border point at Madar towards the district headquarters when he was found with Rs 487,000 in cash inside a Scorpio vehicle.
Police said five other individuals travelling in the vehicle (Province 2–02–001 Cha 087) were also arrested along with Yadav.
Authorities said additional suspicious materials were recovered from the vehicle. Police said investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
