Two arrested for luring youth to India and holding him hostage for ransom



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two individuals on charges of luring a young man to India with the promise of lucrative foreign employment and holding him hostage while extorting ransom from his family.

According to Ramesh Bahadur Pal, Information Officer at the District Police Office, the arrested are 26-year-old Suraj Mukhiya of Kalyanpur Municipality–7 and 22-year-old Prashant Chaudhary of Lahan Municipality–11.

Police said the accused enticed Rishkesh Kumar Marik of Kalyanpur Municipality–7 by promising him a well-paying job in Gaya, India. The victim was taken to India on Poush 20.

After reaching Gaya, the accused allegedly confiscated Marik’s mobile phone and certificates and held him captive at a hostel, the victim told police.

During the confinement, the accused reportedly assaulted Marik and threatened to kill him, while demanding ransom from his family.

Police said the accused collected Rs 217,200 from the victim’s family and also took INR 30,000 from Marik’s possession.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
