President Paudel calls for technology-driven, relevant curriculum

LALITPUR: President Ramchandra Paudel has called for greater use of technology and curriculum and teaching methods that respond to the changing needs of the times.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 75th anniversary of St Xavier’s Secondary School in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, President Paudel said education today should focus on producing citizens with knowledge and skills as well as morality, discipline, creativity, cooperation, compassion and social responsibility.

He said special attention should be given to providing education that promotes patriotism while creating productive employment opportunities within the country to support import substitution and export promotion.

“Education is a powerful means of developing knowledge, judgment, character and a sense of responsibility,” Paudel said. He added that education should help individuals become aware of and responsible towards their society, culture, history and nation.

He said Nepal is rich in diverse languages, cultures, traditions and ways of life, and the education system should respect this diversity while helping students develop a sense of national unity, social harmony and coexistence.

Paudel praised St Xavier’s School for its long history of continuity, commitment, service and contribution to Nepal’s educational development. He said the school had made discipline, values, service, responsibility and humanitarian principles an integral part of education.

He also praised the contributions of the school’s alumni in various fields both in Nepal and abroad.

The president said the purpose of education should not be limited to achieving good examination results or obtaining certificates. He stressed the need to strengthen fundamental human values alongside the changing times.

“In this modern era of rapid information technology development, our education system must also answer the question of what kind of Nepal we want to build and what kind of human resources will be needed for the future,” he said.

Paudel expressed confidence that St Xavier’s School would continue to contribute more effectively to the overall development of citizens and nation-building through education.
