JANAKPURDHAM: Thirty people reported missing from Madhes Province following the flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa have been contacted, while 162 remain unaccounted for, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhu Prasad Dhakal, spokesperson for the Madhes Province Police Office in Janakpurdham, said contact had been established by telephone with 30 of the 192 people reported missing from the province.
Those still unaccounted for include Gyan Bahadur Thing and Shyam Moktan of Sindhuli, who were residing in Birgunj Metropolitan City of Parsa; Satyam Ram of Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-22, Bara; and Rupesh Gupta of Swarna Rural Municipality-3, Bara, according to Dhakal.
Meanwhile, contact has been established with Mobida Khatun, Sakina Khatun and Salman Ansari of Gadhimai Municipality-7, Rautahat; Sekh Majid of Ishnath Municipality-4, Rautahat; and Pavitra Nepal Silwal and Samrat Silwal of Chandrapur Municipality, Rautahat.
Similarly, Brijkishore Das of Lalbandi Municipality-1, Sarlahi; Sunita Das and Dipesh Thapa of Bagmati Municipality-6, Sarlahi; Rakesh Kumar Yadav of Jaleswar Municipality-1, Mahottari; Bipin Kumar Mandal, Shrikesh Yadav and Sachin Kumar Yadav of Aurahi Municipality-9, Mahottari; Aditya Narayan Yadav of Gaushala Municipality-6, Mahottari; and Bikas Bharati of Bardibas Municipality, Mahottari, have also been contacted.
Likewise, police have established contact with Lakshman Mehta of Sabaila Municipality, Dhanusha; Dayawati Devi Yadav of Hanspur Municipality, Dhanusha; Bijay Kumar Yadav, Suresh Panjiar and Ritik Jha of Janakpurdham-4; Bikram Thakur and Sushant Yadav of Janakpurdham-11; Tarzan Balampaki of Golbazar Municipality-10, Siraha; Umesh Yadav of Lahan Municipality-4, Siraha; and Ajay Marik of Kanchanrup Municipality-8, Saptari.
As of Thursday, 48 people from Saptari, 38 from Parsa, 23 from Bara, 18 from Sarlahi, 13 from Rautahat, 12 from Siraha, 10 from Mahottari and seven from Dhanusha remained uncontacted.
The Madhes Province Police Office has started collecting further information about the individuals who remain unaccounted for.
