KATHMANDU: Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party Chair Janardan Sharma is set to launch a new political front in collaboration with several Madhesh-based parties, marking a fresh attempt to unite alternative political forces.
According to Sharma’s secretariat, the alliance will be formally announced at a gathering in Thapagaun, Kathmandu, on August 8.
The proposed front will include the Janamat Party led by Dr. CK Raut, the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal headed by Upendra Yadav, the Aam Janata Party led by Prabhu Sah, the Nagarik Unmukti Party associated with Resham Chaudhary, the Bahujan Ekata Party, and the Federal Socialist Party Nepal, among others.
Janamat Party Chair CK Raut said all major leaders have reached a consensus on launching the alliance.
“Given the current political situation, there is a need for alternative forces to come together. We are preparing to announce the front on August 8 with a clear political message,” Raut said.
The initiative brings together leaders who have previously been political rivals in Madhesh.
Upendra Yadav and CK Raut had long been at odds over political influence in the region. In the 2022 general election, Raut defeated Yadav from Saptari-2, highlighting the intense competition among Madhesh-based parties.
Despite their past differences, Raut, Yadav, Prabhu Sah and Janardan Sharma are now working toward a common platform.
The leaders had also explored reviving a Madhesh-based alliance ahead of the 2025 by-elections, but the effort did not materialize at the time.
Although the announcement date has been fixed, leaders are still finalizing the structure of the front and the nature of their cooperation.
According to party leaders, the initiative has been led primarily by Sharma, who left the CPN (Maoist Centre) and formed the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party ahead of the March 2026 elections.
JSP Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav said discussions to establish the alliance had been underway for a long time.
“For now, we will announce the front on August 8. The detailed structure and nature of the alliance will be made public that day,” Yadav told Khabarhub.
“After extensive groundwork, we have finally reached an agreement. Learning from past experiences, all participating leaders are committed to making this front stronger and more result-oriented,” he added.
