Govt committed to providing quality education in Nepal: Minister Pokharel

KATHMANDU: Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel has said the government is working to ensure quality education is available within Nepal, urging young graduates to contribute to the country’s development.

Addressing the 31st convocation ceremony of Kathmandu University in Dhulikhel, Minister Pokharel said educated youth have an indispensable role in building a prosperous and progressive society.

“The government is committed to providing quality education in Nepal. The active participation of educated youth is essential to achieve this goal,” he said.

He added that the government is striving to build the progressive society envisioned by the younger generation and called on graduates to become active partners in nation-building.

Noting that Kathmandu University has produced more than 51,000 skilled graduates to date, the minister expressed confidence that their knowledge, skills, and experience would contribute to Nepal’s development.

Minister Pokharel also encouraged graduates to seek and create opportunities within Nepal rather than looking abroad.

“There are opportunities in Nepal, and we will continue creating even more,” he said.

During the ceremony, the minister presented academic certificates to students who completed degrees in various disciplines.

Also speaking at the event, Kathmandu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rishikesh Wagle stressed that alongside technical expertise, graduates must uphold wisdom, ethics, cultural awareness, and a strong sense of national responsibility in an era shaped by rapid advances in artificial intelligence and automation.

Similarly, Prof. Dr. Bhupendra Patwardhan called for stronger Nepal–India cooperation in education, research, and the exchange of traditional knowledge. He urged graduates to apply the education they have received with integrity, social responsibility, and ethical values.
