KATHMANDU: The Health Insurance Board has instructed private hospitals to ensure the provision of medical treatment for patients requiring emergency care under the health insurance scheme.
Board Senior Medical Superintendent Dr. Pawan Kumar Shah said that the directive has been issued to ensure that insured services are provided only in cases where emergency treatment is necessary.
The board had earlier suspended all non-emergency health services provided by private health institutions under the insurance programme from May 30, citing a shortage of financial resources, until further notice.
It had also urged hospitals not to classify patients with minor conditions as emergency cases solely to increase the financial burden on the insurance scheme.
Similarly, the board has requested service users not to exert unnecessary pressure on healthcare providers and professionals to deliver insured services in non-essential situations.
Currently, 36 private hospitals affiliated with the insurance programme are providing healthcare services to insured patients.
