Prachanda-led NCP backs DP Aryal for speaker, eyes deputy speaker post

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has decided not to field a candidate for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives. Instead, the party will support DP Aryal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for the position.

Discussions are ongoing between Prachanda and RSP Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane regarding the deputy speaker post. The NCP’s support for RSP in the Speaker election reflects these ongoing negotiations.

Chief Whip Yubaraj Dulal confirmed that the party will back RSP’s candidate for Speaker and reiterated that while they will not contest the Speaker post, deliberations over the Deputy Speaker position are continuing.

Several RSP leaders have indicated that talks with Prachanda-led NCP are ongoing regarding who will be nominated for Deputy Speaker. At the same time, discussions are also underway with Hark Sampang’s Shram Sanskriti Party.

Earlier, there had been talks with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) about the post, but due to RPP’s agenda to restore the monarchy, RSP’s support for giving them the Deputy Speaker role is limited, leaving the final decision still uncertain.
