KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Government Attorney’s Office has filed a case against 13 individuals accused of setting fire to government offices, including the Supreme Court of Nepal, during the Gen-Z protest on September 9.

The case was registered at the Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday on charges of criminal mischief and robbery-related offenses, according to Information Officer Deepak Adhikari.

Those charged with setting fire to the Supreme Court include Sunil Shrestha, Jyoti Thapa, Binod Kumar Thapa Magar, Kumar Parajuli and Raju Pariyar. The charge sheet states that the arson at the court building caused damage worth Rs 1.23 billion.

Similarly, Ashish Gurung has been charged with criminal mischief and robbery-related offenses for alleged involvement in vandalism and arson at Singha Durbar.

Samir Shrestha and Sunil Tamang have been charged over the burning of the Boudha Police Circle, while Nikhil Kusule, Sohan Chaudhary, Bibek Rokka and Chhatra Bahadur BK face charges for vandalizing the Balambu Police Post.

The case was filed following a complaint lodged by the Supreme Court administration at the Kathmandu District Police Office seeking investigation and action against those involved in the September 9 incident.

Police launched an investigation based on the complaint, which ultimately led to the filing of charges against the accused. Authorities said legal proceedings will also move forward against Mahendra Gautam after the Government Attorney’s Office at the Patan High Court decided to prosecute him.
