SURKHET: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Hitendradev Shakya has said the operation of the 132 kV transmission line will mark the beginning of industrialisation in Karnali Province and accelerate the region’s overall development.
During an inspection visit to Karnali, Shakya directed officials to bring the Kohalpur–Surkhet–Dailekh 132 kV transmission line into operation within a maximum of 15 days. This will be the first time a 132 kV transmission line comes into operation in Karnali.
“Rather than words, let facts speak for how far behind Karnali has been. Until now, even a 132 kV transmission line had not reached the region,” Shakya said. “This is the biggest proof. Now, the entire Karnali will have a 132 kV transmission line in operation within 15 days at most.”
Recalling his long association with the region, Shakya said memories of the past came back to him while landing at Surkhet Airport, noting that he has been visiting Karnali continuously since 2009.
During the visit, Shakya also instructed officials to make necessary preparations for setting up a charging station for electric vehicles near the under-construction automated substation in Surkhet, on land acquired by the NEA close to the main highway.
Project Chief Ravi Kumar Chaudhary said the Kohalpur–Surkhet section is in its final stage and expressed confidence that the line would be charged within the stipulated 15 days as directed.
He said the substation, built at a cost of around Rs 75 million, is in a ready state, while the transmission line, constructed at around Rs 65 million, requires stringing of wires across two spans and final testing.
Shakya also held discussions with chiefs of all 10 electricity centers in Karnali Province, focusing on their progress, existing challenges and possible solutions. He urged them to present their issues in writing with clear plans, emphasizing problem identification and solution-oriented approaches.
10 industries and businesses honoured
During the programme, 10 industries and business entities were honoured for their contribution. Those recognised include Gunangdong Unitine Rama JV Crusher, Surkhet; Khalanga Sitalparty Drinking Water Consumers, Salyan; Subhghat Urban Drinking Water, Surkhet; Bijayi Shree Chaurjahari Sukha Drinking Water and Sanitation, Rukum West; Birendranagar Industrial Area, Surkhet; Shankhamul Rural Electricity, Luham Bazaar, Salyan; Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, Jumla; Siddhartha Sanny Resort, Surkhet; and Subhghat Government Drinking Water, Surkhet.
Officials believe the operation of the transmission line will significantly boost energy access, industrial growth and investment in Karnali Province.
