KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah has said there is no alternative to confronting the disaster that has befallen the country with determination.
Addressing the House of Representatives (HoR) on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shah expressed condolences to the families who have lost loved ones in the floods and said he shares the deep sorrow of those still searching for missing family members.
“This pain is not limited to Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading; it is a common tragedy that has struck the entire nation,” he said.
“However, at this time, we do not have the opportunity to rest because our bodies are tired, nor do we have time to mourn together even when our hearts are broken. We accept the reality that, in this hour of crisis, the country’s leadership must give the people courage and support, not tears.”
“Therefore, we have no alternative to fighting this disaster with determination. We are fighting,” he added.
Prime Minister Shah said search and rescue operations were continuing in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi floods and that the government was focused on responding to the disaster. “We are fighting the disaster,” he said.
Expert teams from three countries mobilized for tunnel search
Prime Minister Shah said that expert teams from three countries are being mobilized to search for employees and workers who went missing inside a hydropower project following the Bhotekoshi flood.
Addressing the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shah said rescue operations inside the tunnel were ongoing.
“Indian, Chinese and Korean teams are being mobilized to search for people who have gone missing inside the tunnel,” he said.
The Bhotekoshi flood has damaged 11 hydropower projects. Prime Minister Shah said some of the damaged projects would be costly to operate and restore.
