RSP suspends all internal election processes amid disputes

KATHMANDU: The Central Election Commission of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has suspended all ongoing internal election processes with immediate effect, citing disputes and complaints in several districts.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Commission Chief Bhuwan K.C., following multiple complaints and disputes related to elections in parts of Bagmati and Madhesh provinces.

According to the Commission, internal investigations will be carried out before any further decision is made regarding the continuation of the process.

The suspension affects several local levels where ward, municipal, and district-level conventions were underway or scheduled to take place.

In Bagmati Province, election activities in areas including Chautara Sangachowkgadhi Municipality of Sindhupalchok district, along with other disputed local units, have been halted.

Similarly, in Madhesh Province, all ongoing and planned conventions in districts including Saptari, Siraha, Mahottari, Dhanusha, and Sarlahi have been suspended until further notice.

The Commission stated that all election activities completed up to May 31 will remain valid, while all other processes are paused until a new decision is issued.

It also warned that any activities conducted in violation of the directive would not be officially recognized.

The Commission has urged all party officials at every level to strictly adhere to the decision, emphasizing the need to ensure a democratic, fair, and disciplined internal electoral process.
