Cabinet approves four key decisions including Montreal Protocol implementation and AIG promotion

KATHMANDU: The government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday approved four major decisions during a Cabinet meeting aimed at addressing environmental commitments, security administration, and land management reforms.

According to government spokesperson and Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel, the Cabinet decided to endorse an agreement related to the implementation of the Montreal Protocol under the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The agreement focuses on managing and reducing substances that deplete the ozone layer.

The meeting also approved the promotion of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Anjani Kumar Pokharel of the Armed Police Force Nepal to the rank of Additional Inspector General (AIG).

In another decision, the Cabinet extended the tenure of a study committee by 45 days. The committee was formed to examine recommendations included in a report submitted by a commission investigating incidents that occurred during the protests on September 8 and 9, 2025. The study panel has been tasked with analyzing security-related issues and providing further recommendations.

Similarly, the government appointed a new chair and members of the Land Problem Resolution Committee under the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Federal Affairs and General Administration.

Balbhadra Bastola has been appointed as the committee chair. Members include Amir Prasad Neupane of Kathmandu, Padmini Soti of Lamjung, and Rehana Shrestha of Kathmandu.

The government said the decisions are aimed at strengthening environmental protection commitments, improving security institution management, and advancing land-related dispute resolution efforts across the country.
