KATHMANDU: More than 1,100 positions across around 150 public bodies will fall vacant once an ordinance issued by President Ram Chandra Paudel is published in the Nepal Gazette.
The “Ordinance on Special Provisions for Removal of Public Officials, 2083,” issued on Saturday, will come into effect immediately upon its publication, rendering the concerned positions vacant.
The ordinance affects a wide range of institutions, including universities, public enterprises, committees, boards, and various authorities. Appointees in bodies such as the National Trust for Nature Conservation, Nepal Television, and other government-linked institutions are expected to be impacted.
Appointments made during the government led by Sushila Karki, including individuals like Adarsha Shrestha, are also reported to fall under the scope of the ordinance. Positions in constitutional bodies, academic institutions, and state-run entities, including Nepal Academy and public service broadcasting organizations, are among those affected.
However, according to sources, the ordinance does not include provisions to remove the Governor or board members of Nepal Rastra Bank.
