SEE taking place today; results expected within a month

KATHMANDU: This year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE) begins today (Thursday) across the country.

The National Examination Board (NEB) has announced that the exams will start simultaneously at 8:00 AM at all examination centers nationwide.

According to Tukraj Adhikari, Examination Controller for Grade 10 under the NEB, a total of 512,421 students are appearing for the SEE, which will continue until April 12.

Of the total candidates, 441,566 are appearing for the regular examination, while 70,855 are taking the grade improvement exam. Female students outnumber male students this year.

A total of 257,613 female students, 254,801 male students, and seven others are participating in the examination. Additionally, 23 students will take the exam from a center in Japan, where an examination center was also set up last year.

Meanwhile, the NEB has banned mass monitoring of SEE exams this year following complaints that the presence of multiple observers disrupted students during exams.

Monitoring will now be limited to the external areas of examination centers by official representatives of the District Examination Coordination Committee, led by the Chief District Officer in each district. Journalists will only be allowed to film or take photographs outside the examination centers.

Likewise, security personnel will be deployed at each examination center based on need, as determined by the District Examination Committee. Each center will have 15 police personnel, a center head, an assistant center head, one invigilator for every 20 students, one office assistant for every 100 students, and two additional staff members.
