Two killed as vehicle carrying poll staff meets accident in Ramechhap



KATHMANDU: Two persons were killed after a vehicle carrying election staff and materials met with an accident in Ramechhap on Monday.

According to authorities, the vehicle (Na 7 Kha 6768) veered off the road and plunged down a cliff at Sirubari in Ramechhap Municipality-2.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Parsu Ram Yadav of Nepal Police died on the spot in the incident. Polling officer Dor Prasad Ghimire succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Manthali Hospital, Chief District Officer Shyam Krishna Thapa confirmed.

The vehicle was heading towards Deurali of Ramechhap Municipality-2 carrying election materials and personnel assigned for polling duty.

Ghimire had been deployed as the polling officer at Sanghutar ‘Kha’ polling center located at the ward office building of Ramechhap Municipality-2. He was a teacher at Rudraksheshwar Secondary School in Sanghutar, Ramechhap Municipality-3.

Seven others were injured in the accident. The injured have been identified as Bhim Bahadur Manandhar, Sambar Bahadur Manandhar, Krishna Prasad Ghimire, Durga Karki, Sabina Khadka, Kedar Kumar Roka and Pooja Devi Sunuwar.

According to CDO Thapa, the injured were airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.
