Govt serious and alert over escalating Gulf tensions: PM Karki
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said the government is serious and vigilant regarding the deepening tensions in the Middle East following attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States. Addressing the nation on Monday, she stated that recent developments in Iran and surrounding regions have heightened concerns. The Prime Minister said the Government of Nepal is closely monitoring the evolving situation. She clarified that the safety of Nepali citizens residing in the region for employment and other purposes remains a top priority.
PM Sushila Karki urges voters to actively participate in House election
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has appealed to all voters to actively participate in the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. Addressing the nation on the occasion of Holi (Fagu Purnima), she stressed that collective cooperation is essential to ensure the election is conducted in a peaceful, fair and fear-free environment. Stating that the country stands at a crucial juncture in its history, the Prime Minister said the upcoming election provides citizens with an opportunity to determine their own future.
Festivals inspire us to maintain mutual harmony: President Paudel
President Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed his hope that Fagu Purnima (Holi), one of Nepal’s major festivals, will inspire people to strengthen mutual harmony in society. In a message of best wishes issued on the auspicious occasion of Holi today, the President extended his greetings for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad. He expressed the belief that the festival would encourage efforts to eliminate social distortions, anomalies, and harmful practices, while promoting and preserving the country’s original culture.
Nepal Airlines cancels Gulf flights amid airspace closure
Nepal Airlines Corporation has cancelled its Kathmandu–Dubai–Kathmandu (RA 229/230) and Kathmandu–Doha–Kathmandu (RA 239/240) flights scheduled for March 2 and 3, 2026, citing the ongoing situation in the Gulf region and the closure of airspace in the region. In a notice issued to passengers, the national flag carrier said the decision was taken in view of the prevailing circumstances affecting flight operations. The corporation has apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the cancellations.
Two killed as vehicle carrying poll staff meets accident in Ramechhap
Two persons were killed after a vehicle carrying election staff and materials met with an accident in Ramechhap on Monday. According to authorities, the vehicle (Na 7 Kha 6768) veered off the road and plunged down a cliff at Sirubari in Ramechhap Municipality-2. Assistant Sub-Inspector Parsu Ram Yadav of Nepal Police died on the spot in the incident. Polling officer Dor Prasad Ghimire succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Manthali Hospital, Chief District Officer Shyam Krishna Thapa confirmed.
Gen Z leader Miraj Dhungana reaches Sarlahi to back Gagan Thapa
Gen Z campaigner Miraj Dhungana has arrived in Sarlahi to extend support to Nepali Congress leader Gagan Kumar Thapa. Dhungana, along with a group of youths, reached Sarlahi Constituency-4 on Monday afternoon to campaign in favor of Gagan Kumar Thapa, president of the Nepali Congress. Dhungana had earlier come into the spotlight as a leading figure of the Gen Z movement. He had obtained official permission from the Kathmandu District Administration Office to organize the Gen Z protest on September 8.
Major parties still prioritize clean drinking water in election manifestos
Nepal’s major political parties have placed clean drinking water at the center of their election manifestos unveiled ahead of the upcoming polls. Citing the continued lack of safe, regular and quality drinking water in many parts of the country, the parties have pledged long-term planning and structural reforms to address the issue. The key political forces have linked access to clean water with public health, gender equality, climate adaptation and sustainable development, presenting it as a priority agenda.
RSP denies ownership of liquor and rice found in campaign vehicle
The Bangad–Kupinde Municipal Committee of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has clarified that the liquor cartons and rice found in a vehicle used for election campaigning do not belong to the party. Issuing a statement, the party said claims that a vehicle carrying liquor and rice was mobilized in Sallibazar for election campaigning are misleading and baseless. It stated that rumors have been deliberately spread, suggesting that the newly formed party transported such materials as part of its campaign activities.
Nepali killed in Iran-linked drone incident in UAE identified
A Nepali national who died following a drone-related security incident in the United Arab Emirates has been identified as 29-year-old Diwas Shrestha from Gorkha district. The Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi confirmed on Monday that it received official information from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the death of Shrestha, who had been working as a security guard for a Middle East-based company.
Silence period to start from midnight ahead of March 5 polls
The Election Commission Nepal has said that political parties will not be allowed to carry out election campaigning from 12:00 midnight tonight for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. According to Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC, the election silence period begins 48 hours prior to the voting day and remains in effect until polling concludes and voting centers are closed. As a result, parties and candidates will be barred from seeking votes after midnight tonight.
