Nepali killed in Iran-linked drone incident in UAE identified



ABU DHABI: A Nepali national who died following a drone-related security incident in the United Arab Emirates has been identified as 29-year-old Diwas Shrestha from Gorkha district.

The Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi confirmed on Monday that it received official information from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the death of Shrestha, who had been working as a security guard for a Middle East-based company.

According to the embassy, the incident occurred while attempting to neutralize a drone at Zayed International Airport. Shrestha succumbed during treatment after sustaining injuries in the incident.

In a statement, the embassy expressed deep sorrow over his untimely demise and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. It also said necessary facilitation would be provided to repatriate the body to Nepal at the earliest.

The embassy has urged Nepali nationals residing in Abu Dhabi and across the United Arab Emirates to remain calm, stay in safe locations, and strictly follow security advisories issued by local authorities given the sensitive situation.
