KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has appealed to all voters to actively participate in the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
Addressing the nation on the occasion of Holi (Fagu Purnima), she stressed that collective cooperation is essential to ensure the election is conducted in a peaceful, fair and fear-free environment.
Stating that the country stands at a crucial juncture in its history, the Prime Minister said the upcoming election provides citizens with an opportunity to determine their own future.
“Casting a vote is not merely a process of choosing a candidate, but a decision that shapes your future and that of your children,” she said, urging voters to prioritize reaching polling centers on election day.
Referring to the complex situation following the Gen-Z movement, she claimed that the government has successfully guided the country towards a peaceful outlet and is now moving forward on the path of rule of law and constitutional governance. She said this achievement was made possible through the patience and cooperation of all Nepalis.
In the context of the election, she urged political parties, candidates and supporters to conduct their campaigns in a restrained and respectful manner. She also called for full compliance with the election silence period.
The Prime Minister praised the role of the Election Commission Nepal, security agencies and civil servants, expressing confidence that their impartiality and dedication would ensure a successful election.
She informed that all four security agencies have been mobilized for election security and coordination is underway among federal, provincial and local governments.
Expressing gratitude for the support received from President Ramchandra Paudel, she also described assistance from friendly nations and international agencies as positive.
The Prime Minister urged citizens to remain cautious of misleading content and misinformation being spread through social media. Warning that such activities would be brought under the legal framework, she said impunity would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
During her address, she also expressed concern over rising tensions in the Gulf and said the government remains alert regarding the safety of Nepalis residing there. According to her, continuous monitoring is being carried out through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal and necessary facilitation will be ensured.
Calling the election a historic opportunity, the Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to help make the Falgun 21 polls peaceful and exemplary.
