Festivals inspire us to maintain mutual harmony: President Paudel

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed his hope that Fagu Purnima (Holi), one of Nepal’s major festivals, will inspire people to strengthen mutual harmony in society.

In a message of best wishes issued on the auspicious occasion of Holi today, the President extended his greetings for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad.

He expressed the belief that the festival would encourage efforts to eliminate social distortions, anomalies, and harmful practices, while promoting and preserving the country’s original culture.

In his message, President Paudel noted that Holi symbolizes the victory of truth over falsehood, justice over injustice, virtue over immorality, and righteousness over wrongdoing. He said the festival carries a tradition of setting aside enmity, fostering goodwill, and celebrating with relatives and friends by applying colors with love and affection.

Celebrated as the festival of colors, it marks the arrival of spring and is observed with joy and enthusiasm across the country. The festival begins with the erection of the ceremonial pole adorned with colorful fabrics and concludes with its burning on the night of the full moon.

President Paudel also highlighted that, just as Holi is celebrated in many colors, Nepali society is rich in ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity, and that unity within this diversity represents the nation’s true identity and beauty.
