Police intervene as Durga Prasai holds program outside permitted venue in Bharatpur

CHITWAN: Police intervened in a program organized by Durga Prasai and his supporters in Bharatpur on Monday after it was held outside the location designated by the local administration.

Tension escalated after Prasai began the program at Chaubiskothi Chowk, prompting the police to step in and attempt to disperse the gathering. This led to scuffles and pushing between police personnel and Prasai’s supporters.

During the clash, police arrested three activists affiliated with Prasai, according to District Police Office, Chitwan spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabindra Khanal.

“We tried to remove the program after it was held outside the location approved by the administration. In the process, three individuals were taken into custody,” Khanal said.

The local administration had granted permission for the program to be held at the corner of the Central Bus Terminal Chowk. However, Prasai’s group insisted on marching around Chaubiskothi Chowk and holding the program at Bus Park Chowk, which triggered the tension.

Police had permitted a circumambulation around Chaubiskothi Chowk, but intervened when the group attempted to organize the program at the chowk itself instead of proceeding as approved.
