Customs officer, two others arrested at TIA; Rs 453,556 seized



KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested three employees, including a customs officer, from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and recovered Rs 453,556 in cash.

Those arrested include Customs Officer Indra Neupane, Office Assistant Ganesh Prasad Pudasaini, and another staff Chhabi Prasad Rijal, who were working at the Foreign Postal Customs Branch of the Customs Office, the CIAA said.

The CIAA team arrested them and recovered Rs 453,556 in cash along with 23 mobile phone sets from their possession.

According to the CIAA, the arrests were made following information and complaints that the officials had been demanding bribes from service recipients while sending goods abroad through courier companies.

Additionally, the CIAA recovered Rs 146,000 from the office of Pudasaini and Rs 268,288 from the office of Rijal.
