Kathmandu Valley sees rise in minimum temperature

KATHMANDU: The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley increased today (Monday) in the initial reading.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was recorded at 6.2 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today.

At the same time on Sunday, the minimum temperature stood at 5.5 degrees Celsius. However, in the official measurement taken at 8:45 am, Kathmandu’s minimum temperature was recorded at 5.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

The official minimum temperature for today is being measured at 8:45 am. Meteorologists say the temperature recorded at that time is likely to be slightly lower than the early-morning reading taken at 5:45 am.

According to meteorologists, cloudy skies at night tend to result in higher minimum temperatures in the morning, while clear skies lead to lower minimum temperatures.

Conversely, during the day, maximum temperatures tend to decrease under cloudy conditions due to reduced sunlight, and increase when the sky is clear.

The Division records daily minimum and maximum temperatures across the country, including in Kathmandu Valley. The minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is measured at 5:45 pm.

The minimum temperature refers to the lowest temperature recorded in a day, while the maximum temperature refers to the highest.
