Qatar grants amnesty to 13 Nepali prisoners

KATHMANDU: The Qatari government has granted amnesty to 13 Nepali citizens held in various prisons.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the amnesty was granted on the occasion of Qatar’s National Day and International Migration Day. In a press release, the Ministry thanked the Qatari government for extending clemency to the Nepali prisoners.

The government of Nepal expressed gratitude for the amnesty, stating that the gesture has further strengthened the longstanding friendship and cordial cooperation between Nepal and Qatar.

The Ministry noted that the move reflects the positive state of bilateral relations between the two countries. About two weeks ago, Nepal gifted two elephants to Qatar. Currently, an estimated 500,000 Nepalis are working in Qatar.
